Background
Perla grew up around music, tours and backstage rooms, so travelling and constantly changing cities were normal parts of her childhood. She spent a lot of time around adults and learned quite early how to entertain herself when everyone else was busy.
She lost her father when she was nine years old. It was the first major change in a life that had otherwise always been secure, and she had to get used to things being different.
Perla did not exactly plan on getting involved in anything illegal. It started with small favours for people she already knew, first her late sister's husband Joe. She learnt everything from him and then joined his crew. She could have walked away then, but she didn't. She discovered that she was good at keeping it cool when things became complicated, and she liked the freedom and the thrill that came with it.
Tuna came into her life much later. They met during a bank robbery in Mexico City. He had nothing to do with the plan, but somehow remained calm enough without making things worse. It was hardly a normal first date, but then again, very little about Perla's life was normal. Somehow, it was followed by a tequila date that same night. By the end of the night, they had fallen for each other, and they married not long afterwards.
Personality
Perla is not someone who panics easily. When something goes wrong, her first instinct is usually to calculate what can be done about it. She likes knowing where she stands and feels comfortable when she has complete control over a situation. She is practical about most things and does not have much patience for unnecessary complications. She can take risks when it makes sense to her, but doing something dangerous simply for the thrill of it sounds stupid to her.
She can be difficult to read, mostly because she does not react to everything straight away. She prefers to think before she speaks and rarely says more than she actually means. That can make her seem colder than she is, especially to people who do not know her well.
Perla does not rely on people easily. She is perfectly capable of accepting help, but she prefers knowing that she could manage without anyone's help. At the same time, she does not confuse independence with doing everything alone. She only trusts her crewmates and her family.
She has a strong sense of her own boundaries and does not enjoy being pushed into things, especially by people who assume they know what is best for her.
She is not especially forgiving of repeated mistakes. One bad decision she can understand, the same one several times starts to look like a choice. She does not necessarily have grudges, but once she changes her opinion of someone, changing it back is almost impossible.
